Newcastle Bridges School June 2024 – October 2024

Because I wasn’t busy enough with work at Newcastle college, I also started work with Newcastle Bridges School around the same time. From the artists brief, I decided that this project would be all about them and their surroundings, as having a safe place is vital for all children but especially children with complex mental health presentations including SEND and SEMH diagnoses.

The project was to design and build their ideal house, many went to for a simple house shape but there was also pyramids and a tower. The students created furniture and then created a town plan of their ideal town, before having a launch event at the Farrell Centre in Newcastle.

My first residency has all been a bit of a rush but I have enjoyed it very much, from interview to first session was only a week but the students in the childcare department at Newcastle College seem to have been enjoying having a chance to experiment with new crafts. Read more
